Iwan Sunito – A Business Success Story

IwanSunito, co-founder and current CEO of Crown International Holdings Group, was born in Surabaya Central Java in Indonesia and grew up on the Borneo Island. According to the now successful businessman, he was a lazy child, so he went to Sydney in 1985, where he would be able to pursue his education and be more focused and under pressure not to fail. Although he left Indonesia over 20 years ago and has even forgotten some Indonesian words, his decision opened the door for him to become the success he is today.

Education

Iwan gained his Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) degree in 1992 and Master of Construction Management degree in 1993 from the University of New South Wales. He was registered as an architect in New South Wales in 1993.

Career

Iwan is known for his calm personality and humble attitude, but this has not held him back from pursuing his dreams. He actually began his career as an employee, working as an architect for Cox Richardson Architects, a large Australian firm. He felt that he would be better off running his own business than working as an employee.

His family and professional experience provided the encouragement and financial support he needed to make his debut by building a residential project in the Bondi Junction area, along with two of his good friends. In 1996, together with his business partner, Paul Sathio, he co-founded the Crown Group – this was just four years after his university graduation.

Crown Group’s Success

Although it was not easy to achieve what Crown has done so far, Iwan found that doing business in Australia was a lot more transparent than it was in Indonesia. Business integrity and the ability to read market trends played a crucial role in getting him where he is today. Crown International Holdings Group is now a leading Australian property development company that boasts enormous success in Sydney. Some of the popular projects undertaken by the company include residential developments, in Ashfield, Bondi, Eastwood, Epping, Five Dock, Strathfield, Pennant Hills and Homebush.

According to Iwan, Crown Group wishes to offer its clients luxurious living at a price they can afford. The company is planning to launch a new development in June 2013, Skye by Crown, which is expected to become North Sydney’s icon. This is a 20-storey residential complex designed by Koichi Takada. The complex features a bronze colored metal veil exterior, with each of its 232 apartments having balconies, glass facades and winter gardens. The project has already generated a lot interest, despite the fact that its advertising campaign is yet to launch. This is just a testament to the company’s reputation for delivering high-quality apartments.

Philanthropy

Despite his success, Iwan still remembers his humble beginnings and has even organized business workshops for Indonesian students in Australia. He has also organized music festivals and charity events in his home town and other parts of Indonesia in an effort to give the less fortunate children of his home country the opportunities they may never have otherwise. Family is also important to Iwan, who is married with three children.
